Robert R. Bahnson, MD |
|
Robert
R. Bahnson, MD was nominated to be a Trustee of the American Board of Urology by
the American Association of Genitourinary Surgeons. His term extends from February
2008 - February 2014.
Dr. Bahnson,
a native of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, is a graduate of Carleton College and Tufts
University School of Medicine. He completed his urology residency at Northwestern.
He has held faculty positions in urologic surgery at Washington University, The
University of Pittsburgh, and Ohio State where he currently occupies The Dave Longaberger
Endowed Chair in Urology and serves as the Chairman of the Department of Urology.
Dr.
Bahnson has received an American Cancer Society Clinical Oncology Career Development
Award, an AFUD Research Scholarship, and a Clinical Investigator Award from NIH/NCI
to support his research.
He has
been on the Board of Directors of the Northeastern Section and the Northcentral
Section of the AUA. He is a past president of The Ohio Urologic Society and The
Society of University Urologists. He has served on the ACGME Residency Review Committee
for Urology and currently chairs the Urology Advisory Council for the American College
of Surgeons.
Dr.
Bahnson and his wife Janet have four children; Eimear, Eamonn, Emmett, and Eoghan.
He is passionate about golf and was recently named to Golf Digests Top 250 golfing
doctors.

Dr. Boone was nominated to be a Trustee of the American Board of Urology by the
American Association of Genitourinary Surgeons. His term extends from February 2006
– February 2012.
Timothy B. Boone, M.D., Ph.D., Professor and Chairman, Scott Department of Urology, Baylor College of Medicine, was born in Dallas, Texas. He graduated from Southwestern University, Georgetown, Texas with a B.S. in Biology, earned his Master of Science degree in physiology, and his Ph.D. in neuroscience at the University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. He graduated from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, completed his residency training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas and joined the faculty at Southwestern in 1991. Dr. Boone was certified by the American Board of Urology in 1995 and recertified in 2003.
In 1992, he came to Baylor College of Medicine as an Assistant Professor. He is the Medical Director of the Urodynamic Laboratories at The Methodist Hospital and has received a secondary appointment to the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Baylor College of Medicine. As a member of The Center for Prostheses Infection, he represents the specialty of Urology and he is the staff urologist over the Spinal Cord Injury Unit at the Houston VA Medical Center.
Dr. Boone specializes in treatment of patients with incontinence and bladder problems associated with spinal cord injury and neurologic disease, men with postprostatectomy incontinence, and women with complex voiding dysfunction. He has established an active Neurourology Research Laboratory focused on the basic mechanisms of bladder dysfunction following neurologic injury to better treat these conditions.
Dr. Boone is a member of the Texas Urological Society, Society for Neuroscience, American Urological Association, Inc., the American Association of Genitourinary Surgeons and Society for Urodynamics and Female Urology (SUFU). Dr. Boone was recently elected to membership in the Clinical Society of Genitourinary Surgeons.
He serves as a consultant reviewer for several scientific journals, including Neurourology and Urodynamics, where he is the clinical neurourology editor, The Journal of Urology, Urology, Spinal Cord, European Urology and the New England Journal of Medicine. |

| John B. Forrest, MD |

Dr. Forrest was nominated to be a Trustee of the American Board of Urology by the American Association of Clinical Urologists. His term extends from February 2007 – February 2013.
Dr. Forrest is a board certified urologist with the Urologic Specialists of Oklahoma, Inc., a sixteen man urologic group in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Dr. Forrest received his B.A. from the University of Tulsa in l972 and his M.D. from the University of Oklahoma in l976. This was followed by a residency in general surgery and urology at the University of Virginia. Dr. Forrest then performed a Fellowship in Urologic Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.
Dr. Forrest is a Clinical Associate Professor of Urology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Tulsa. He is past Chief of Staff of St. John Medical Center in Tulsa and a past member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Tulsa. Dr. Forrest is Vice-Chairman of the Practice Guidelines Committee of the American Urological Association and a member of the ad-hoc Pay for Performance and Core Curriculum Committees of the AUA. He is also Treasurer of the South Central Section of the AUA.
Dr. Forrest was certified by the American Board of Urology in 1984, and in keeping with ABU policy with respect to grandfathered Trustees, will be required to recertify during his board tenure. |

| Gerald H. Jordan, MD, FACS, FAAP |

Dr. Jordan was nominated to be a Trustee of the American Board of Urology by the American College of Surgeons. His term extends from February 2006 – February 2012.
The urologic practice of Dr. Jordan is limited almost exclusively to adult and pediatric genitourinary reconstructive surgery. Dr. Jordan graduated from the United States Naval Academy after which he did pre-med training at U.S. International University Cal Western Campus. He received his medical degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio. He was a Designated Flight Surgeon in the United States Air Force, completed his internship and urological residency at the Naval Regional Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia, and a fellowship in pediatric and adult reconstructive surgery at Eastern Virginia Graduate School of Medicine. Dr. Jordan is currently a Professor in the Urology Department of the Eastern Virginia Medical School and is Chairman of the Devine Center for Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgery at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia.
Dr. Jordan was certified by the American Board of Urology in 1984 and is recertified through 2018. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He has wide and varied academic interests and is an innovative leader in the field of genitourinary reconstructive surgery. He is keenly motivated in this area of investigation and has made notable contributions to the literature. He also participates in numerous national and international medical conferences and serves as a visiting professor at many centers throughout the world. |

| Barry A. Kogan, MD |

Dr. Kogan was nominated to be a Trustee of the American Board of Urology by the American Urological Association. His term extends from February 2007 – February 2013.
Dr. Kogan is the Chief, Division of Urology, Albany Medical College. He went to Medical School at Northwestern University and did his residency at the University of Michigan. After a fellowship in Pediatric Urology in Liverpool, England, he joined the faculty at the University of California, San Francisco where he was promoted from Assistant Professor to Professor of Urology and Pediatrics over 15 years. In 1997, he became the Chief of the Division of Urology in Albany. In 2004, he led a transition of the Urology clinical practice to become a part of the multispecialty group, Community Care Physicians, all the while maintaining the faculty’s full-time appointments and obligations.
Dr. Kogan continues to have an active clinical practice in Pediatric Urology, with a wide range of primary to tertiary care cases. He is a well recognized educator, having been awarded a “Silver Scalpel” award as the best surgical teacher. He has also led a strengthening of the residency program in Urology, which was awarded a 5 year accreditation with a note of commendation from the Residency Review Committee. Dr. Kogan is also an active investigator with experience in NIH-funded basic research, investigator-initiated clinical research, and industry-sponsored clinical trials. He has published extensively in many areas of pediatric urology and investigative urology. In addition, he has contributed to many local, national and international organizations as lecturer, committee member and Chair.
Dr. Kogan is currently a Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics at the Albany Medical College and Chief of the Division of Urology. He holds the Falk Chair in Urology at the Albany Medical College. Dr. Kogan was certified by the American Board of Urology in 1983 and will enter maintenance of certification upon earning his subspecialty certification in pediatric urology. |

Kevin R. Loughlin was nominated to be a Trustee of the American Board of Urology by the American Urological Association. His term extends from February 2011 – February 2017. He is a Professor of Surgery(Urology) at Harvard Medical School, Senior Surgeon at Brigham and Woman's Hospital, and Staff Urologist at Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
Dr. Loughlin served as Secretary of the New England Section of the AUA from 2002-2007 and as the President of the New England Section of the AUA from 2008-2009. He is currently on the Board of Directors of the American Association of Clinical Urologists and the Massachusetts Association of Practicing Urologists. He will serve as an alternate and then member of the Board of Directors of the American Urological Association from 2011-2019.
Dr. Loughlin received his A.B. from Princeton University, his M.D. from New York Medical College, and an MBA from Boston University. He received the Alumnus Medal of Honor from New York Medical College in 2003 and has served on the editorial boards of the Journal of Urology, Urology and the Canadian Journal of Urology. He has authored over 200 original publications in the field of urology and has authored or edited ten books. Dr. Loughlin is a Diplomate of the American Board of Urology and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. |

| Margaret S. Pearle, MD, PhD |

Dr. Pearle was nominated to be a Trustee of the American Board of Urology by the American Urological Association. Her term extends from February 2008 – February 2014.
Dr. Pearle attended the University of Chicago where she received her B.A. in Biology and M.S. in Biochemistry. She continued on at the University of Chicago for medical school in the Medical Scientist Training Program, receiving her M.D. and Ph.D. degrees in 1985 and 1987, respectively. She completed her Urology residency at Northwestern University, then went on to fellowship training in Endourology and Minimally Invasive Surgery at Washington University, St. Louis, under the direction of Dr. Ralph Clayman.
Dr. Pearle is currently Professor of Urology with joint appointments in the Departments of Urology and Mineral Metabolism and holder of the Ralph C. Smith Distinguished Chair in Urologic Education at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Her research interests include evaluation of dietary and medical therapies for kidney stone prevention, assessment of outcomes for minimally invasive surgical treatments, development and assessment of resident teaching tools and cost analysis of treatment strategies. In her clinical practice, she primarily sees patients needing medical and/or surgical treatment for kidney stones.
In 2003, Dr. Pearle received the Gold Cystoscope award from the American Urological Association, and is an active member of the esteemed American Association of Genitourinary Surgeons. She is a past President of the R.O.C.K. Society and served as a member and subsequently consultant for the AUA/ABU Joint Examination Committee. In addition, she serves on the Editorial Boards of several peer-reviewed journals. |

Michael L. Ritchey, M.D. was nominated to be a Trustee of the American Board of Urology by the American Academy of Pediatrics. His term extends from February 2009 - February 2015.
Dr. Ritchey is a native of Louisiana, is a graduate of Louisiana State University of Medicine. He completed his urology residency At Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center and fellowship at the Mayo Clinic. He has held faculty positions in urologic surgery at University of Michigan and University of Texas Health Science Center where he served as Chairman of the Department of Urology. He is currently Professor of Urology at the Mayo Clinic Arizona.
He is past chairperson of the Section of Urology of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Richey was the past chair of the AUA/ABU examination committee. He is currently the chief of surgery at Phoenix Children's Hospital.
Dr. Ritchey and his wife Catherine have three children; Nicholas, Christine, and Andrew. (And one very active canine -Snickers!)

Peter N. Schlegel, M.D. was nominated to be a Trustee of the American Board of Urology by the American College of Surgeons, to serve from February 2009 - February 2015.
Dr. Schlegel is Chairman of Urology from Weill Cornell Medical School and Urologist-in-Chief at New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York, NY. A native of New England, Dr. Schlegel received his A.B. degree from Hamilton College in Clinton, NY., his M.D. from the University of Massachusetts before training in General Surgery and Urology at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. He has contributed over 200 original manuscripts and book chapters to the urologic literature.
Dr. Schlegel has served as task force chair and senior consultant to the AUA/ABU Examinatin Committee, is on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Urology and has served as president of numerous societies, including the Society of Reproductive Surgeons, Society for the Study of Male Reproduction, Society of Reproductive Medicine and Urology, as well as the Board of Directors of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine.

| Ian M. Thompson Jr., MD |

Dr. Thompson
was nominated to be a Trustee of the American Board of Urology by the American
Association of Genitourinary Surgeons. His term extends from February
2010-February 2016. He received his undergraduate degree from West Point and M.D. degree from Tulane
University. After a Residency in Urology in San Antonio, he
completed a fellowship in Urologic Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer
Center. He is Chairman of the Department of Urology at the University of
Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and is the Executive Director of the
Cancer Therapy and Research Center at UTHSCSA, the NCI designated Cancer
Center. Dr. Thompson has published over 400 scientific papers, several dozen
book chapters, and has edited six textbooks in medicine and surgery. He
currently serves as Chair of the Early Detection Research Network of the
National Cancer Institute and Chairs the Genitourinary Committee of the
Southwest Oncology Group. He has previously chaired the Urology Residency Review
Committee of ACGME and served as President of the Society of Urologic Oncology.
Dr. Thompson is the Principal Investigator of the San Antonio Center for
Biomarkers of Risk of Prostate Cancer. This cohort study, with up to 10 years of
followup, follows over 3,700 men for development of prostate cancer. He is the
Principal Investigator of the Program Project Grant, The Biology of the PCPT. He
was the primary coordinator of the Prostate Cancer Prevention Trial, PI of S8794
(Adjuvant Radiotherapy for pT3 Prostate Cancer), and co-PI of the Selenium and
Vitamin E Prevention Trial.
Dr. Thompson retired as a Colonel from the U.S. Army, having served as Chairman
of the Department of Surgery at Brooke Army Medical Center as well as Commander
of the 41st Combat Support Hospital. He served in Saudi Arabia and Iraq as a
General Surgeon in a Combat Support Hospital during Operation Desert
Storm/Shield.
Dr. Thompson is married to Donna Thompson, PhD. They have two children, Laura and
Ian (who is a Urology resident). Other family members include two chocolate Labs
(Picante and Jungles) and a cat (Cat).

| J. Brantley Thrasher, MD |

Dr. J. Brantley Thrasher was nominated to be a Trustee of the American Board of
Urology by the American Urological Association. He is Professor and the William L. Valk
Chair, Department of Urology and the Co-Director of Operative Services at the
University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. A native of
South Carolina, he completed his Medical Degree at the Medical University of
South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina, an internship at Walter Reed Army
Medical Center in Washington, D.C., and his urology residency at Fitzsimons Army
Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado. He subsequently completed a urologic
oncology fellowship at Duke University Medical Center. He served for three years
as Program Director for the Urology Residency Program at Madigan Army Medical
Center in Tacoma, Washington, and after completing his military obligation, he
was appointed to his present position in 1998.
Dr. Thrasher has served on numerous national committees, including the American
Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC), as the Kansas State Representative to the
Board of Directors of the South Central Section of the American Urological
Association, as the Chair of the Fellowship Committee for the Society of
Urologic Oncology, and the Public Media (previous chair), Practice Guidelines,
Prostate Cancer Guidelines (vice-chair) and Audio-Visual Committees of the
American Urological Association. He recently served as a mentor for the 2008 -
2009 AUA Leadership Program, is a member of the American College of Radiology
Expert Advisory Panel on Prostate Cancer, a member of the Best Practice Policy
Panel on Cryotherapy for the Treatment of Prostrate Cancer, and the Chair of the
Prostate Cancer Literature Review Panel for the American Urological Association.
He is the Secretary of the Society of Urologic Oncology, Chairman of the
Metropolitan Kansas City Committee on Applicants of the American College of
Surgeons, and the Past-President of the South Central Section of the American
Urological Association. He was recently appointed as the South Central Section
Representative to the American Urological Association Board of Directors, is a
Diplomate of the American Board of Urology and a Fellow of the American College
of Surgeons.
Dr. Thrasher currently serves as Coordinating Editor for Practical Reviews in
Urology and Topics in Urology; Society of Urologic Oncology Specialty Society
Editor for the Journal of Urology; member of the Editorial Board for
Prostate Cancer and Prostate Diseases; member of the Editorial Advisory
Board of the Journal of American Family Physician; an Associate Editor
for the book, "The 5-Minute Urology Consult;" member of the Editorial Council
for Urology Times; ;and Section Editor of Cancer Prevention in the
Journal Seminars in Urologic Oncology.
Dr. Thrasher's basic science research interest is in the area of prostate cancer
and he is currently a co-investigator or consultant in NIH, Center for Disease
Control, and Department of Defense funded research. His clinical research
interests are in the area of prostate, bladder, and renal cancer, as well as
reconstruction, and he serves as the principal investigator on numerous
investigator initiated, industry funded, and institutionally funded protocols. |

| J. Christian Winters, MD |

Dr. Winters was nominated to be a Trustee of the American Board of Urology by the Society of University Urologists. His term extends from February 2011 – February 2017.
A native of New Orleans, Dr. Winters earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans. He completed his urology residency in the combined LSU/ Ochsner program, where he served as Chief Resident and Assistant Clinical Director at Charity Hospital. He then completed a fellowship in female urology and voiding dysfunction at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio in 1995. He returned to LSU from private practice in 1997, and has continued to serve as faculty in the LSU/Ochsner residency program. He was appointed
Program Director of the Ochsner/LSU Urology Residency Program in 2005, and was recently recognized by the AUA as Teacher of the Year in 2009 for these efforts. He is currently the H. Eustis Reily Professor of Urology and Gynecology and Chairman of the Department of Urology at the Louisiana State Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. He also serves as director of the LSU Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery fellowship, which is involved in the multidisciplinary training of urologists and gynecologists in the field of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery.
He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Urology, certified in 1997, and recertfied in 2007.
Dr. Winters is Vice-President of the Society of Urodynamics and Female Urology, a Councilor of the Society of University Urologists and a member of the American Urologic Association, the Southeast Section of the AUA, the International Continence Society, The American Urogynecologic Society, the American College of Surgeons, the International Urogynecologic Association and the Louisiana State Urologic Society. He has served on the Executive Committee of the Southeast Section of the AUA and as President of the Louisiana State Urologic Society. He was director of the SUFU Fellowship Committee,
and during that time was influential in organizing the combined ABU/ABOG match process for Female Pelvic Medicine Fellowships. In addition he served as a member of the joint ABU/AUA Examination Committee. He has taken an active role in the American Association of Clinical Urologists and the AUA Health Policy Council, where he serves as Vice-Chair of the SESAUA Health Policy Council and as the SESAUA representative to the AUA Health Policy Council. He was a member of the recently completed American Urologic Association Stress Urinary Incontinence Guideline Panel and currently serves as Panel Chair of the AUA
Urodynamics Guidelines Panel. He is a panelist in the AUA-ABOG Stress Urinary Incontinence Outcomes Measures Panel. In addition, he serves on the Quality Improvement and Patient Safety as well as the Practice Management Committees of the AUA. Through these roles, he has frequently consulted in the area of voiding dysfunction and female urology. He was the lead author of the AUA Core Curriculum in Urodynamics, and serves as a Core Curriculum Section Editor in the area of Female Urology and Voiding Dysfunction. He remains on the Core Curriculum Educational Committee. Dr. Winters also serves as an editor of the UCUR, the Urodynamics Curriculum for Urodynamic Residents, which is a joint project of the SUCPD and SUFU.
Dr. Winters served as Associate Editor of Neurology and Urodynamics and is on the editorial board of the Journal of the Louisiana State Medical Society. He reviews for nearly every major journal in the subspecialty of voiding dysfunction and has published over 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts and text chapters. Dr. Winters has lectured extensively at the AUA, and has delivered state-of the art lectures at the Canadian Urologic Society, SUFU, SESAUA, and the International Continence Society.
Dr. Winters is married to Elizabeth Gay Winters, who has a busy radiology practice in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The have three children: Jack (23), Julia (18) and Emily (15). The Winters family is blessed by many beloved pets: a terrier(Maggie), and 3 cats (Louie, Sophie, Midnight). Unfortunately, none has taken to his hobby of running.
