The Preliminary Examination is the urologist's path back into the certification process when his or her admissibility has expired. This examination is the In-Service examination of the American Urological Association and is given annually with that exam in November

Application to take the examination is made by submitting a letter of intent and the $700.00 application fee to the American Board of Urology by August 15. Applications may be submitted with an additional late fee of $400.00 until September 1, after which time no applications will be accepted.

The examination is always administered the third Saturday in November.

After approval by the Board, the candidate's information will be transmitted to the American Urological Association. The candidate will be contacted with logistical information for the examination.
